A beautiful morning greeted me when I crawled out from the doily. A few puffy clouds were lit up with the dawn glow. It was still windy, but the few clouds above seemed to be passing harmlessly. No rush today, we'd take it easy and hike over Arrow Pass after a long lunch break at Double Lake.
I found a sunny rock to start drying clothes and boots out on. Everyone else found their own bushes, rocks or set up a clothes line. I had to weight everything down with several rocks to keep them from flying away, and someone always seemed to be chasing after a pair of socks or a jacket around camp.
Tim D spent some time fishing the shoreline while I had a second cup of coffee and chatted with Helen and Cheryl. We were surprised to find no one else at the lake and only saw some horse packers go by.
We moved on to Double Lake and found sheltered spots out of the wind. I ate a large lunch while others snacked or read. Tim D started catching trout and was up to 4 when Helen and Tim B decided to head over the pass and find a campsite. They agreed to hang Helen's bright yellow poncho as a signal to us.
Tim was determined to catch a 5th trout so we'd each have one for dinner. He had several bites and had even landed one which had enough fight to flip off the hook and hop back into the lake. Giving up we cleaned the 4 trout and ran the "Entrail 5K" again.
We headed back to our packs and Tim collected his pole, then offhandedly cast into the lake. I was amazed when he reeled in the 5th trout. Another Entrail 5k run and we were finally off.
We headed up to the pass in strong winds, but under a clear day that left nothing to the imagination as to the climb before us. Our ascent was broken up by a break in a marshy area were we spotted 2 deer and several stops to turn around and take that one last look at the range spread out behind us.
Just over the pass Tim spotted Helen's poncho and we detoured off the trail toward the campsite they had picked out. Everyone else setup in the meadow to watch the stars at night. I wanted to avoid condensation or dew, so I setup just inside the trees on a perfect spot cushioned with pine needles.
Helen and Cheryl talked and read in the meadow, while the Tim's and I tossed the frisbee around. After a group dinner, including the wonderfully tasty fresh trout, we had a blazing fire of dry wood and sat up watching the stars come out until the full moon rose over the hills above us.
