The top of Wisconsin:
Timms Hill
Elevation:1,951 feet
Location:west of Tomahawk, WI
Date:10/04/2001

Left my brother's house in Elmhurst, IL a bit after 6am. Stopped on the road for coffee and breakfast and by 1pm I was at Wisconsin's Timms Hill. Only eventful item to report about the drive, was spotting a red fox very near the highpoint.

The towers atop Timms Hill.

A short hike from the parking area leads to the highpoint and lookout tower. Only a few other people were at the park on this fall day. I climbed up the tower and admired the view - perfectly yellow birth tree leaves, browns, oranges and the reds of maples. The sky was overcast, limiting the view, regardless the colors were certainly near their peak.

Lots of forestland and small towns surrounded the highpoint. Small enough that the radio stations were announcing lost and found items on air ("boat-type gas can", "golden retriever being very friendly at hospital").

Had a quick lunch in nearby Tomahawk, then continued north up to Land O' Lakes on the Michigan border. I'm camping tonight in the Nicolet National Forest near the headwaters of the Wisconsin River. Tomorrow I'll reach Mount Arvon.
