Arkansas's highest point was the first of a 5 state highpoint binge. It was also the first highpoint I did
consciously with my father (see Tennessee). We left Bloomington and followed the usual string of interstates
until we finally left those behind at Russellville.

| Cloudy day at the trailhead to Signal Hill. |
Low lying clouds provided the latter stages of our drive with falling rain, but as we climbed the roads toward
the top of Signal Hill the rain gave way and we found our selves driving into the clouds.

| My father and I at the highest point of Arkansas. |
We joked about the "extreme" elevation and played John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High" in honor of the highest
point we would obtain on this five-state trip ("It's all down hill from here!").
After finding the parking lot, we noticed the new trailhead sign and all the work done on the trail itself. The
trail would be nearly wheelchair accessible, if it wasn't for the drainage ditches. The trail is fairly short,
and well graded, but contained a mysterious air from the thick fog we hiked through. The whole area had an alpine
feel with the surprising cold and strong winds we experienced. Quite a few wildflowers
dotted the hillsides around the trail and at the summit itself.

Once at the summit we took a few pictures, and checked the GPS's elevation reading against the sign.
After heading back and warming up in the car, we drove part way to Louisiana, to summit Driskell Mountain tomorrow.
